At YBSJ, students attend
school four days a week for 9 months through the San Joaquin Building Futures Academy
Charter School (SJBFA) under the San Joaquin County Office of Education. The
charter school runs on a traditional school schedule from August-May. Students work
in alternating rotations of education and hands-on training with the goal of
gaining construction skills and earning their high school diploma. Classes are
small and dynamic. BFA requires that students complete 135 credits, complete 75
hours of community service or work experience, and complete a culminating
project called a YBG. Students that complete these education requirements will
earn their high school diploma.
